An air hostess from Crawley, West Sussex, has made a £30 bet that she will marry her boyfriend within 10 years to celebrate Valentine's Day. Liverpudlian Melissa Curry will give the bet, which could win £750 after bookmakers backed it at odds of 25/1, to her boyfriend on Tuesday.
The pair both work for the same airline and have been together for 10 months. Ms Curry, 27, said she and Matthew Dockray, 25, had already discussed the prospect of marriage. The air hostess, who lives with other cabin crew in Crawley, near Gatwick Airport, said: "My boyfriend is really into betting so I thought about giving him a bet for Valentine's Day.
"It's definitely a quirky gift and shows I've got a romantic side. "We've only been together for 10 months but we've spoken about marriage and I feel he's the one, so it's a perfect present."
Celebrity couples
The bookmaker said marriage bets made over the years had been mostly from couples gambling on whether they would make it to their golden wedding anniversary.
A spokesman said: "This is the first time we have accepted a bet on a couple that are not even engaged. "Melissa is obviously very confident that he's the one." He said Prince William and Kate Middleton were among the celebrity couples named as being likely to marry first in 2006.
Other couples included Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson, Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall, Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz, Wayne Rooney and Colleen McLoughlin, Celebrity Big Brother's Preston and Chantelle, Kate Moss and Pete Doherty, and Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy.
